From the beginning, Sasha’s Farm Fresh has sought to follow the highest standards in farm production to ensure consumer safety. The importance of growing leafy greens that are nourishing and free from harmful bacteria is clearly emphasized by the many incidents of food poisoning that have affected large agribusiness crops across the United States. By pursuing USDA Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification from the beginning, Sasha’s Farm Fresh continues to demonstrate that we are dedicated to being part of the solution for the many agricultural problems facing the United States. With that in mind, Sasha’s Farm Fresh owner Dean Smith is pleased to announce that “after months of inspections, quality control, and on-site enhancements, Sasha’s Farm Fresh is now USDA GAP Certified!”
As suggested by this announcement, there’s more to GAP certification than simply filling out some paperwork. A farm must make a commitment to follow specific practices, outlined by the USDA, that encompass every part of the farm production process. Then, the farm submits to USDA audits that confirm compliance.
To quote from the USDA website: “This voluntary program is offered to the fruit and vegetable industry to verify an operation’s efforts to minimize the risk of contamination of fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts by microbial pathogens.” Obviously, this certification serves as a reassurance to commercial buyers that Sasha’s Farm Fresh is following the rules and taking all the necessary steps to limit any microbial contamination in its superior leafy greens and lettuce.
